Our Department
Chemical Technology
Program Description
The Chemical Technology Program was opened in the 2007-2008 academic year with the name of “Chemistry Program” with an additional quota of 30 students. The name of the program was changed to “Chemistry Technology Program” in the 2009-2010 academic year. It is a 2-year program consisting of 4 semesters of 14 weeks. The program provides theoretical courses, laboratory applications and industry-based training during this two-year period. The Chemical Technology program is designed to provide students with the basic concepts of industrial chemistry as well as developing their manual skills in industry and laboratory applications. The program aims to meet the intermediate staff needs of the industry today and in the future. For this reason, it is desired that the chemical technician, who is a member of the industrial chemistry group, is more knowledgeable and has higher foresight than qualified workers and chemical technicians. The main purpose of the Chemical Technology program is to train qualified professionals who are knowledgeable in the fields of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, can put this knowledge and experience into practice, are open to innovations in science and technology, are beneficial to society, entrepreneurial, productive, respectful of the environment, people and nature, self-confident, will provide the connection between Chemists and Chemical Engineers and workers in the industry, and have gained the necessary professional competence depending on the developments in science and technology.
Program Profile
The quota of the program is 25. The duration of education is 4 semesters (2 years) and the language of education is Turkish. In the first 2 semesters of our education, theoretical and practical courses are given to students. In the 3rd and 4th semesters, theoretical and practical courses are given at school 3 days a week, and Professional Practical Training is given in the Elazığ Organized Industrial Zone, where our school is located, in the remaining 2 days. In order for students to obtain an associate degree in Chemical Technology, they must successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses (120 ECTS in total) that they must take in the program and complete a 30-day summer internship. The program is designed to teach students the basic concepts of chemistry and industrial chemistry, as well as to develop students' manual skills in industrial and laboratory applications. In the program, theoretical courses covering basic chemistry knowledge and based on industry are given in the classrooms of our Vocational School, while practical courses are given in the laboratories of the program.
Education Application Area and Program Opportunities
In our program, courses are given by a Professor, an Associate Professor and a Lecturer. Our program includes a General Chemistry Laboratory containing the necessary tools and devices for the application courses of the Chemical Technology associate degree curriculum.
Graduates' Employment Profiles
Graduates of the program are given an associate degree in "Chemical Technology" and the title of "Chemical Technician". Chemical technicians are the most needed people in an industrialized country and their work areas are quite wide. Chemical technicians can work in three basic departments in the industry: quality control, production and research and development (R&D). Our graduates can find job opportunities in many areas such as glass factories, tire and rubber factories, cement factories, paper factories, sugar factories, paint factories, food sector, pharmaceutical sector, fertilizer factories, soil sector, cosmetics and cleaning sector, energy sector, oil sector, automotive factories, metal sector, leather sector, shipyards, textile sector, petrochemical, health sector, mining sector, construction sector in the private sector. In addition, those working in the public sector start their duties with the 2nd stage of the 10th degree in the Technical Services Class and are subject to the Civil Servants Law No. 657.
